Ghee, or clarified butter, has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine and Indian cuisine for thousands of years. Rich, nutty, and deeply nourishing, ghee supports digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.
Unlike regular butter, ghee is clarified, which removes milk solids and leaves a pure, golden fat. This makes it lactose-free, nutrient-dense, and easy to digest. It’s packed with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K and has a high smoke point, making it ideal for cooking without losing nutrients.
In Ayurveda, ghee is celebrated for its grounding and balancing properties, especially for Vata and Pitta doshas. It helps calm excess air and heat in the body while nourishing tissues and supporting healthy digestion.
Simple Homemade Ghee Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pound (4 sticks) unsalted butter, preferably cultured, organic or grass-fed
Instructions:
Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat.
Let it simmer gently until it separates: foam on top, milk solids sink.
Continue for 20–25 minutes until golden and fragrant.
Strain through cheesecloth into a jar.
Store at room temperature or in the fridge.
Ways to Use Ghee
Cooking: Sauté vegetables or drizzle over cooked grains.
Self-Massage: Warm ghee nourishes dry skin and calms the nervous system. I use it as a face cream sometimes and it's amazing and giving a healhty glow.
Herbal Infusions: Combine with turmeric or ashwagandha for wellness boosts.
Flavor Enhancer: Add a spoonful to soups, oatmeal, rice, lentils, or lattes
Ghee isn’t just food - it’s a super food. Incorporating it into your diet and self-care routine can help you feel
